Repeat Prescriptions


Your doctor may decide to prescribe medication on a repeating basis. This means you can usually order your regular medications without the need to see a Doctor. Please place your order a week before you run out.


If you collect your prescriptions from the surgery, please collect them from main reception


 Requesting Repeats

There is an order form attached to each repeat prescription you get, that shows your repeat items. Please keep the order form to make it easier to order your next prescription. Repeat prescriptions can be requested in several ways:

  • In Person:
    Dropping the repeat slip into the boxes provided in the Surgery Building. There is a green box on the wall to your left through the Main Entrance and another on the reception counter by the Prescription Clerk's desk.

  • By post:
    Tick all the items you require on the order form and post it to us (see: Our Address). If you include a stamped, self-addressed envelope we will post your prescription back to you. Otherwise, the prescription will be available for collection from reception.

  • By telephone:
    Telephone on 01630 655815 to leave a recorded request (availiable 24 hours a day). Speak slowly and clearly. Please don't call the main practice number unless you have a query. It is helpful if you have the order form in front of you when you call. Be sure to listen to the instructions before recording your message.

  • By fax:
    Fax to us on 01630 652322 Monday to Friday.

  • Online: By signing up for a Patient Services account
 Please Remember Top 
  • Our prescription clerk's can only give you medication that has been previously prescribed and put on repeat by your GP. Any medicines requested not on your repeat slip or new requests from a Hospital or other source will have to be put before a GP for authorisation. This may delay the requesting process for several days.

  • Repeat prescriptions may normally be collected a minimum of 2 working days after request. Please allow enough time when ordering.

  • To order early if you are going on holiday.

  • To order a few days earlier for Bank Holidays, Christmas etc.

  • Only order items that you need. If you have stopped taking any of your medicines, please tell your doctor or nurse.

  • Attend for your regular medication reviews, some medications require regular blood tests, it is vital you have these - your GP will inform you of any necessary monitoring that maybe required

  • There may also be addition information or instructions about your medication, on the right-hand side of your prescription
 Urgent Prescriptions Top 

If you have run out of your medicines and cannot delay taking them, we can try to arrange a same day prescription. If you contact us before 10.30 a.m. we may be able to have a prescription ready for collection later that day.


However, this should be a one-off only and cannot be guaranteed. Please give one week’s notice whenever possible. We are not able to prepare prescriptions while you wait. It is the patient's responsibility to make sure their medication is ordered in good time.


 Medication Reviews Top 

If you are due for a medication review. Ask at reception to arrange a review of your medication. This may be a nurse run clinic appointment, a GP appointment or there may be no need for an appointment and the Doctor can review your medicines just from your medical record. You may find there is a note from your GP attached to your prescription when you collect it. Please carry out any instructions the GP indicates.


 Pharmacy Collection & Home Delivery Top 

Repeat prescriptions can be collected directly from your nominated pharmacy. Please ask at your pharmacy of choice about this service so it can be set up and an indication put on your medical records.


If you would like to have your medications delivered, you must arrange this with your preferred pharmacy each time. We are not responsible for deliveries and cannot ensure that the pharmacy delivers on time.


In either case, please allow an extra day for processing collected or delivered medicines.

 

Electronic Prescribing

From February 2017 if a patient has a nominated pharmacy, many of their prescriptions will be processed entirely electronically by us, and sent to the nominated pharmacy without the need to print them on paper.

 

For more information on how this works please visit the dedicated NHS web site or ask in your pharmacy for details of how to sign up.

 

If you have already signed up for this service, or nominated a preferred pharmacy then you do not need to do anything else. Your prescriptions will be ready to collect in the usual manner, whenever you request them.

 

Please note that the pharmacy next to the health centre is entirely independent of the practice.
