New Phone System ( posted on Sep 6, 2018 )

On Monday 10th September we will be moving over to a new phone system. This is part of a Shropshire wide project to update all GP practices to a modern telecomms solution. Our current system is 15 years old and showing its age. Please note this upgrade is only for the GP Practice, the Community Trust departments in the building (District Nurses, Physio, Dental etc) are not migrating with us.
There will be no changes to any of our phone numbers.
The migration should happen at lunchtime (1pm - 2pm) but may take more than the hour to complete. This is heavily dependant on BT carrying out their transfer work. We apologise in advance if you are unable to call the Practice after 2pm, although this is highly unlikely. We will be up and running as soon as we can. During the downtime we will not be able to make or receive any calls on any of our numbers. This includes the repeat prescription line, fax line, business and appointment lines.
On Monday morning it will be business as usual with the afternoon bringing the switch over.

Some of the benefits include:
  • All lines are recorded - incoming & outgoing. Currently only a few lines are recorded and this system is not reliable.
  • Better queue management with comfort messages for patients, queue placement messages etc.
  • More call lines - this will allow more patients to be in the call queue than before, hopefully alleviating the engaged tone during peak times and stopping an issue where we can't call out if there are too many incoming calls.
  • Statistics for call flow monitoring. We can see a live view of the system and historical data to help identify peak times, allow better organisation of the reception team and monitor the performance of the system.
  • No more 'withheld number' on our out going calls, it should present the main Practice number so you can identify that it is a call from us.

Plus NHS Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi is now available to patients to use while they wait for their appointments. To sign in please go to your Wi-Fi settings on your device and click to connect to the "NHS Wi-Fi" access point. You will be taken to a sign in screen where you can register for access using an existing social media account or by completing a short form.

Please bear with us as we adapt to the changes. We don't anticipate any major problems but as with all new things it will take a few days for us to get used to the new handsets and usage of the system.

Bank Holiday Closing ( posted on Aug 24, 2018 )

The Practice is closed for the August Bank Holiday - Monday 27th August. We are open again as normal on Tuesday.

Phone System Outage ( posted on Jul 28, 2018 )

There is an ongoing problem with the telephone system for the entire Primary Care Centre (affecting GP and Community staff)

We can only apologise for the problems this is causing and we are trying to get it completely resolved as quickly as possible.

If you need to order a prescription and do not have an online account, the old request form has been re-enabled on this webiste. Please make your requests here.

Again we apologise and are as frustrated by these issues as any of our pateints that it may affect.

Update 30.7.2018

The fault was fixed on Saturday and hopefully all systems are functioning normally.

Fortunately the GP Practice (not the whole building) is due to be updated to a brand new phone system in a month or two's time. The update will also enable Wi-Fi for both staff and patients. This is part of a Shropshire wide project to update all medical practice's telecommunications equipment.

More information will be posted when dates and processes of the migration are available.

GP Extended Access Survey ( posted on May 3, 2018 )

Patient Survey – Take Part Now to Help Shape the New Extended Hours Service for local GP Practices

A Patient Survey is now open for local people to help plan longer opening hours for GP practices by Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).

The quick confidential survey takes just minutes to complete and aims to help the CCGs find out who would be interested in the new extended hours service and when people would be most likely to use it.

To take part in the survey click here

https://tinyurl.com/Extended-Access-Survey

The survey opens on Monday, 30 April, and closes on Friday, 25 May at 5pm. It is open to all patients over 16 registered at a practice listed with Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin CCGs.

Dr Stephen James, Clinical Director for Primary Care speaking on behalf of both Shropshire CCG and Telford and Wrekin CCG in this joint project, urged people to complete a survey.

He said: “It will really help us shape the service if people can just spare a few minutes to complete the survey. This will help us find out the level of interest in the service and how people would like to use it.

“In particular, the patient survey is looking at people’s preferred days and times for appointment over the evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.”

If you need help completing the survey, or need a paper copy, for assistance please contact:

Telford patients - Sharon Smith, Patient Engagement Lead, on 01952 580478 or email: Sharon.smith90@nhs.net

( posted on Dec 18, 2017 )

Over the next two months we are working with Shropshire CCG to offer extra GP appointments.  This is because we know that there are times you want to be able to see a GP at short notice.  We also know that over winter lots of people have seasonal illnesses which require more than a pharmacy but don’t need emergency treatment.

The extra appointments are bookable on the day by ringing reception on the usual number: 01630 652158 or by booking online, if you have an account.

If you haven’t yet signed up for GP Online Services simply call into the practice with a form of photo ID and proof of address.  We can sign you up there and then.  GP Online Services makes it easy to book appointments online, request repeat prescriptions and view some of your medical records.  Find out more about this on this website.

If you are not able to attend an appointment you have booked, for whatever reason, please let us know.  We can then offer that appointment to someone else that needs it. We have a dedicated 24 hour cancellation line 01630 692900, or you can use your online account.

Please remember to let us know an up to date mobile number so we can text you a reminder for any future appointments.

Update on Computer Issues ( posted on May 15, 2017 )

After a busy weekend of testing and fixing. Most of the services at the Practice (and other depratments in the building) have been restored and are running as normal.

Thank you for your patience and please be aware that we are working hard to catch up with the back-log of prescriptions, referrals and other admin that we've not been able to attend to since the ransomware attack on Friday lunchtime.

Please be assured that although the building was affected, at no time was any data (patient or practice) compromised or damaged.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ( posted on May 12, 2017 )

The medical practice has suffered a complete outage of phones and computers.

Local IT teams and Practice staff are working to resolve a major incident.

We will update this page when more information is available.

If you have an appointment already booked, please attend as normal.

There will be a delay in processing prescriptions until this is resolved.

This is a serious incident and we can only apologise for any delays in treatment.

More GP Appointments released ( posted on Jan 13, 2017 )

Primary Care Survey ( posted on Jan 4, 2017 )

A survey regarding Primary Care Services is currently out, giving patients across Shropshire the opportunity to offer some feedback and insight into GP services in the region.

Printed copies are available from our Main reception, or the survey can be completed online here.

Please note this survey has not been created by Drayton Medical Practice and is available to all members of the public who are registered with a GP in Shropshire.

Did Not Attend Data 2016 ( posted on Jan 3, 2017 )

The final figures for non-attended appointment have been audited and added to the spreadsheet here.

As can be seen 2016 was a record breaking year - unfortunately. With the highest level of DNA rates we've ever recorded.

The total number of lost appointments for GP & Nurses combined is near 5,000 for the year in total.

We try all we can to remind patients to attend their appointments; if you cannot attend, please cancel your appointment. 5,000 appointments lost contribute greatly to the average wait for an appointment for all patients.

You can cancel via your online account, by calling the cancellation line on 01630 692900 or over the counter at reception.

We have started to send out text reminders for valid mobile numbers - let us know your number here.

Hopefully a versatile reminder service will help reduce the DNAs in 2017

Texting Service ( posted on Dec 30, 2016 )

Starting in the New Year we will be sending out SMS (text) reminders to patients the evening before they have an appointment. This relies on us having a correct number recorded for a patient.

For the first week only routine GP appointments will be sent out, this will be expanded to include all Nurse and other staff memebers' appointments during January.

In the near future patients will also be able to cancel their appointments by text and we will expand the types of messages we send, from reminders about reviews, simple questionnaires and other features.

If you want to let us know your mobile number or update it, you can tell us when in the Surgery or complete this simple online form.

If you wish to opt out of this service, please let us know and your records will be flagged and no further texts will be sent unless you change your mind.

Any feedback regarding this service is welcome.

Appointment System Changes ( posted on Jul 11, 2016 )

From August 2016

The Practice has taken on board comments from our patients and Patient Group. As a result we are going to trial some changes to our appointment system from August 2016. Further changes may be introduced over the forthcoming weeks of the trial.

The following appointments will be offered:

1)    A routine appointment with a Doctor, up to four weeks ahead*.

2)    A routine appointment with a Nurse, Healthcare Assistant or Phlebotomist

3)    A Same Day Appointment

4)    An appointment with a nurse in the Minor Illness Clinic (For anyone with minor ailments such as a sore throat or chest infection).

5)   An emergency appointment, if you feel that your symptoms cannot wait until the following day or for a routine appointment. You may be asked to come to the Practice by a specific time, to book in and wait, to discuss a single problem only. You will be seen by one of the doctors working that day.

6)    A telephone appointment with a GP, either on the day or routinely.

7)    Home Visits - We encourage patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available. We do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:30. A visit cannot be guaranteed by the receptionist as a doctor will telephone you to carry out an assessment with you.

Please be aware the Doctors have instructed the reception staff to ask you the nature of your problem in order to signpost you to the most appropriate type of appointment.

Out of Surgery hours, please call Shropdoc on 0333 222 66 55

*Routine GP appointments can be booked online, ask at reception for details.

Sad News. ( posted on Apr 7, 2016 )

Further to the announcement in the Shropshire Star, it is with great sadness and deep regret that Drayton Medical Practice would like to confirm the very sad loss of our colleague and friend Helen Erzincanoglu.

Helen joined the Practice as a Practice Nurse in November 2002 and rose to be a very well respected and diligent member of the team, subsequently becoming our Nurse Manager. Helen was loved and admired by both patients and the staff who worked with her.

In the Summer of 2013 Helen needed to retire on medical grounds. Her sunny disposition, ready smile and willingness to help others are still greatly missed.

All at the Practice extend our deepest sympathies to her husband Salih and the family.

A book of condolence is available at reception for those who wish to pay their respects.

Online Medication Ordering ( posted on Oct 22, 2014 )

As detailed in the news item below, the facility to access a 'live' view of your repeat medication, order and track orders is now available via your VISION ONLINE account.

Please see below for further details.

We will continue to offer the ability to order medication via this website for now, but we strongly urge for you to switch over to the online services method as it is more convenient, easier and will save both patient and practice time.

Improvements to Online Services ( posted on Sep 30, 2014 )

From October 2014 there will be upgrades made to the facilities we offer via Online Service, please see below for details

In line with the Government’s policy to provide all patient’s in England with online access to details of their medical records, we will be upgrading the facilities we offer as a Practice on the Vision Online webpage.

If you haven’t yet signed up for an online account, you can pre-register on this page, or by picking up and completing a form at the Practice.

Currently your online account allows you to make a routine appointment with a GP and view or cancel any appointments that you have booked with us.

Ordering repeat prescriptions is currently carried out on the Practice Website, here.

2 new facilities will be introduced soon:

  • Ordering repeats via the Vision Online account
  • Viewing a complete medication history, along with allergies and adverse reactions via the Vision Online account.

We are planning the following changes over the coming months:

  • Switch on the facility to request any active repeat medication from your Vision Online account. This will allow you to see a ‘live’ view of your currently available repeat medicines and simply tick to request any that you need. This facility will also have a ‘free-text’ comment box for messaging regarding your medication.

Intended date of activation: Mid-End October 2014

  • Train relevant staff (reception and prescription clerks) in the changes to online systems and raise all staff awareness of the proposed changes.

Intended date for completion: Mid-End October 2014

  • Email all current users of Vision Online with details of the changes.

Intended date for completion: Mid-End October 2014

  • Run several patient awareness sessions in the reception/waiting area, giving patients a chance to ask questions and sign up for online services.

Intended dates: To start in October with sessions throughout the 2014-15 year.

  • When available from our clinical supplier we will enable the facility for all online account holders to view their entire medication history along with any allergies or drug reactions we have recorded. This facility can be expanded to allow patients to view other aspects of their medical records (e.g. immunisations or lab results) if requested by the patient and agreed by the patient and a GP at the Practice.

Intended date for activation: End Decemeber 2014
